Some Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a consultation?
All sessions are tailored specifically to you, and include a consultation session with me. We will discuss ideas on style, colors, props and wardrobe. And I will work closely with you and learn from your ideas and expectations to make sure that you will have a relaxed photo session.
How do I prepare for the shoot?
Once your session is booked, I will send you a guide with plenty of tips on how to prepare for your photo session.
How are the images retouched?
Professional photo retouching is included in your session. I specialize in the most comprehensive and detailed editing, and while I focus on creating a natural look we will edit your photos to your liking.
What sets this business apart?
Even if it is your first professional photography session, My goal is to ensure you feel comfortable, confident, and empowered. Throughout your personalized photo shoot, I will skillfully guide you on posing and make your experience a good one. No two sessions are the same, because they are truly unique to the people in them.
What if I don't like how I look?
Trust me, neither do I. I do ask that you let me know about any specific insecurities that you have prior to our shoot, just so I'm aware. I also want you to think back to how much you treasure photos of your mother and grandmother in their youth – I know I do! Some of my favorite family photos are ones of my mom holding me and interacting with me when I was little. Just remember how much your kids love you, how beautiful you are, and that you deserve stunning images of your family – and so do your kids! I'm also good with angles and styling, both of which will help you look your best.
Do you offer mini sessions?
I do offer seasonal mini sessions. Please subscribe to my newsletter to be the first to know when they are held.
Do you offer payment plans?
Unfortunately not at this moment.
Is there a booking fee?
I do require a non- refundable 35% retainer to hold your session.
What if I need to reschedule my session?
I do require a 24 hour notice for rescheduling. Otherwise, you'll have to pay the deposit again for booking a new session.
How long will it take to receive my images?
All images have a 2 week turnaround time. You do have the option to pay an extra fee $200 for a 72 hour turnaround time if I have availability to do so.
What areas do you serve?
I reside in Syosset, NY. So I serve to clients on Long Island, Queens and Manhattan, New York.
Do you have other fees?
Other than my session fees, any areas that require photography or parking permits of any kind are the clients responsibility. Please note prior to booking an outdoor session if the location you want to do the shoot at requires any permits and available dates that you are looking for.
Do you do location shoots?
Yes I do. Please do make sure that the location you are interested in doing the shoot at has your date and time available. Also that you have paid for the photography permit for that location.
Do you provide makeup and hair services?
I do offer an added $200 option of hair and make-up for my maternity, beauty, fashion and boudoir clients.
What if I want more photos?
You can get additional edited photos for $25 per image. Unfortunately, I do not give out unedited photographs.
What rights do I get for the photographs?
Even though "Photography by Hira Akmal" maintains the copyrights, I do give you print rights and the right to use it on social media without altering the photo and giving "Photography by Hira Akmal" credit by linking the website: www.hiraaakmal.com
Do you deliver every image you shoot?
No, I do not. I eliminate duplicate images, test shots, missed focused shots, shots with bad expressions and other images that may dilute the overall product delivery. For example, because I shoot with low apertures, sometimes I take a few extra shots to make sure we have the perfect focus. In another example, candid laughs and emotional tears are some of the best images from the day. Unfortunately, they can also yield some unflattering facial expressions. I might snap a few extras of any of these moments to make sure I have a great shot with the ideal expression for the moment.
What camera do you use?
While I use Canon cameras and equipment, both Nikon and Canon make great professional camera bodies and lenses. When people ask, which camera is better, there is really no clear cut answer to the question. The fact is, both manufacturers make great cameras overall, with subtle differences. However, the difference is more of a preference than one in quality.
Can you add digital effects or change the background of my photos??
Absolutely, I can! Please do discuss what you have in mind at the time of consultation. Do note that these are considered as creative and artistic editing which can be done for an additional cost.
If I pay for my package in cash will we be able to avoid paying sales tax or receive a discount?
Unfortunately, collecting in cash does not exempt a photography studio from paying sales tax. NO discounts are offered at the moment. Please subscribe to the newsletter and keep an eye out for specials.
What if I lose my images?
There is a $100 replacement charge for additional downloads after the event has been archived. We strongly suggest you make at least one copy of the download when you receive it from us.
